Informal example not fully appearing

Hrm... good question.  I notice that when I build the book locally, the
parenthesized text is preserved in the HTML and PDF output.

I'll need to take a look at our new server and see if there's something odd
going on there.  I don't see anything in the nightly build log files that
looks interesting, though.
